“Here is a sustaining and nutritious snack for children and a good replacement for chocolate snacks at Easter.”

Here is a snack created by Sarah Remmer, Canada’s Child & Family Nutrition Expert, that is nutritious and has staying power (nutrient dense foods) keeping kids satisfied for 2-3 hours.

2 apples, cored and sliced thinly

2 pears, cored and sliced thinly

5-6 strawberries, slices

1/3 cup blueberries

2 tbsp chia seeds

2 tbsp shredded coconut

½ cup vanilla Greek yogurt

¼ cup natural peanut butter

1 tsp cinnamon

2 tbsp chocolate chips (optional)

Directions: 

  1. On a large plate, layer fruit evenly, placing apple and pear slices on the bottom and berries on top.
  2. Sprinkle chia seeds and shredded coconut on top. Set aside.
  3. In a small bowl, combine peanut butter, Greek yogurt and cinnamon and whisk together until smooth. Transfer mixture to a small re-sealable plastic baggy and seal, making sure that the air is removed. Massage mixture to one of the bottom corners. Snip the bottom corner of the plastic bag and drizzle mixture over top of fruit “nachos” before serving.
